11+, Fractions and Solving Equations
I mentioned a few weeks ago that I quite enjoy writing, and have been fortunate to have had some posts published in an online magazine called 'Educreate.'
Here's the latest - please do let me know what you think :-)
What use is a quadratic equation?
Key Stage 2 (years 3 - 6)
It's quite interesting how often we get asked to help with 11+ maths. There isn't really a local requirement but, increasingly, students are using the materials to practice for the some of the school entrance exams ... or to give themselves a significant head start for year 7.
So, here's a challenging booklet to work through. Always pleased to mark and feedback :-)
Key Stage 3 (years 7 - 9)
Fractions are incredibly useful with around half (geddit!) of the school maths curriculum, and are much easier to work with than decimals.
Try some addition / subtraction of fractions to keep your skills up to date.
Key Stage 4 (years 10 - 11)
Along with fractions, solving equations is a core mathematical skill. And you need to be methodical. And precise. And neat. And clear. And show your working.
They only get much more difficult and, if you are going to study higher level maths, you'll be working through some quite sophisticated equations.
Have a great week

PS. And finally, the joke of the day:
What is a pirate's favourite letter?
Rrrrrrr
