Commands, Conversions & Functions
Happy Summer!
I had thought about taking a break from writing these newsletters each week … but there’s much to celebrate with some excellent students and - as long as they continue to show up - I think I should too.
It put me in mind of my old maths teacher Dr F…. While my younger self was, (perhaps) a little less motivated, I remember one of his favourite phrases ‘just one more.’ The idea was that, when you think you’ve finished, just complete one more maths question.
The comment has stuck with me for a long time - ‘doing one more’ is great advice, and makes for outstanding students.
Key Stage 2
Here's a list of sentences. Can you work out whether each is a statement or a command?
Read the recipe.
Get me that bag.
I like your hairstyle.
Move out of the way.
Arrive at 10 o’clock.
It’s a simple question.
That’s a grand house.
Bob will cycle to work.
I don’t remember my password.
Put it in the wardrobe.
Key Stage 3
Converting units is popular for non calculator papers and, whether making cakes or filling swimming pools, could be useful for real applications.
Here’s a worksheet to help you practice cm^3 to litres, miles to km and £ to $.
Key Stage 4
Well done to those students who we’re able to work through last week’s tangent questions. Here’s an equally challenging series of functions problems - unless you think differently?
Always pleased to help if you need any support.
Looking forward to seeing you soon

PS. And finally, an English joke:
Would February March? No, but April May.
PPS. I hope that you find the worksheets & video walkthroughs useful. To help the YouTube algorithm to decide whether to show the videos to others, it's incredibly helpful if you are able to 'like' on the channel ... assuming, of course, that you do ... er 'like':
