Proofreading, Proportion & Cones
It's always tempting to spend a few minutes on social media and, like many, I try not to get too drawn in. It's amazing how quickly time goes, when there's just another video to watch, or post to read :-)
Although - just occasionally - there's some interesting comments, and I thought I'd share. While this post is about a musician, there's a lot of correlation with learning maths / English / or any subject. Our amazing students attend week after week - and practice. It's a brilliant discipline to have, and will pay dividends.
Wherever you are on your learning journey, the difference is made by continually showing up.
Key Stage 2
Here's a great exercise for years 4 - 6.
How many errors can you find in the short story below?
tommy and the missing necklace
tommy is eght years old and he lives with his mum and dad in a little house on the edge of town? one day Tommy is walking his dog fred down the rode when he spots something sparklin in the grass Tommy bends down and sees a goldin necklass glinting in the sunshine. He picked it up and looks at it! It has a big red ston in the centre and looks very expensif so he puts it in his pokit.
when he gets home tommy shows the neckless to his mum and she tells her to take it to the police stashun tommy shows the neckliss to a large policeman siting behind a desk and the policeman gasps in shok! This is the duchess of smithtown’s missing ruby necklace? Its worth a fourtune.
Tommy was gave a reward of £20 for founding the lost necklas and he was rely pleased with himself
Please do email your work, and we'll be pleased to mark.
Key Stage 3
Proportion questions are another favourite type of 'real maths' - and can be extremely useful.
Here’s a worksheet to help you practice - the second video is quite challenging!
Key Stage 4
I'm going to be adding some fairly focussed videos in the next few weeks - just to provide practice with some of the formula type questions.
Here's a worksheet, and walkthrough videos, on volume of a cone & frustum.
Have a great week :-)

PS. And finally, you remember a few weeks ago the joke about a gorilla learning his Ape, B's & C's? Here's another one:
What is a snakes favourite subject at school?
Hissstory
PPS.
I hope that you find the worksheets & video walkthroughs useful. To help the YouTube algorithm to decide whether to show the videos to others, it's incredibly helpful if you are able to 'like' on the channel ... assuming, of course, that you do ... er 'like':
