Recognising Shapes, Bearings and Hard Ratio
We're so fortunate to have some incredibly impressive students. The ones who will achieve fantastic careers, make an impact, and let nothing stop them. And they use every opportunity to improve their knowledge.
We're always pleased to help prepare, and it's a real pleasure to get such a forward thinking email:
"Hi Simon,
Hope you are well. I got the list of topics I have done this year, which I have attached. The last thing we did was probability, and from there we started doing revision. I am pretty sure a test will be set soon but we haven’t been told anything yet. The topics that I found the hardest were Probability, Surds & Percentages (non - calc) - could we recap as much of this list as possible please?"
Key Stage 2 (years 3 - 6)
Recognising shapes is a core skill, and they are an important part of maths - all the way to GCSE, and beyond.
Here's an introductory worksheet that might be useful for years 4 - 6.
Key Stage 3 (years 7 - 9)
I can't imagine how many times I've said 'It's North, clockwise,' this year ... but's it's definitely been quite a few.
Bearings seems to be one of those topics that can be a little challenging. Although this worksheet will point you in the right direction. (Dad joke).
Key Stage 4 (years 10 - 11)
Ratio questions can sometimes be quite difficult. Something like:
A and B are in the ratio 3 : 4
C and D are in the ratio 2 : 5
Given: A + B = 3(C + D)
Find A : B : C : D
.. might take a little time to solve.
Here's a worksheet, answers and walkthrough video that might help.
Have a great week

PS. And finally ....
The term “algebra” comes from the Arabic word “al-jabr”, meaning “the reunion of broken parts”.
